History & Design:

The Pakistani Cultural Garden is a place for visitors to rest, reflect and learn about Pakistan, the fifth-most populous country in the world. Pakistan has the second-largest Muslim population in the world and gained independence from India in 1947.

The Garden features a central planter, benches and plaques honoring leading cultural figures. The planter soon will be replaced by a replica of the Minare-a-Pakistan in Lahore, which commemorates the Lahore Resolution to create an independent Pakistan. Just as the Minare will symbolize the presence of the Pakistani people in South Asia, this garden symbolizes their presence in Northeast Ohio. The first Pakistanis arrived in Cleveland in the mid-20th Century, and members of the Pakistani community in Cleveland today are employed in the healthcare, finance and business fields.
