History & Design:

The Finnish Cultural Garden features a granite monument with a quote by author of prose and lyrics Aleksis Kivi.

Busts of the renowned Jean Sibelius, composer of “Finlandia;” Elias Lonnrot, doctor and author of the epic poem, “Kalevala,” Johan Vilhelm Snellman, statesman; and Johan Ludvig Runeberg, national poet and author of the Finnish national anthem, “Maame” also adorn the Finnish Garden.

Volunteers from the Finnish Museum and others organize and maintain this garden throughout the year. Cost associated with this maintenance including plantings, mulch, fertilizer etc.

The Finnish Cultural Garden want to establish a fund for the ongoing maintenance and eventual restoration of this lovely spot and appeals to all of those with Finnish heritage and their friends to help them create the resources necessary to care for this unique area of the Cleveland Cultural Gardens.

Additional Information:

2017 was the 100th anniversary of the Republic of Finland. We were proud to celebrate. Help us celebrate in the future by participating in our fund raising efforts visiting the Cleveland Cultural Gardens. They are unique in the world!
