Summertime 2024

Gratitude and excitement: the summer of 2024

The Cultural Gardens have much to be thankful for in the summer of 2024, especially because of the new friendships we have made as we welcomed new partners into our fold.

Volunteers: So far this summer, we have been blessed to welcome old friends and new who have volunteered to help our community of Gardens with weeding, clean-ups and plantings. John Carroll University, and the Trust for Public Land returned to kick us off in early spring. The staff of College Now, a new partner, provided us with more than 100 volunteers on June 14 – we had a glorious, fun and productive time. On June 22, volunteers from Channel 3, WKYC, helped create some beautiful landscaping (design by Bremec Group) at our plaza. It takes a village to maintain the Cultural Gardens, and we cannot thank our “villagers” enough.

Events: our volunteers have been helping us prepare us for coming events, specifically Community Night/Glenville’s Got Talent on July 18; World on Stage meets the PanAm Masters Games on July 20th; and our biggest event of the year, One World Day on Aug. 25. The Italian Opera takes place on July 28th.

Our work with the Sports Commission in staging the July 20th PanAm event has been especially gratifying. That concert of international dance marks the last night of PanAm Games. At that event, we will dedicate 24 trees that were planted in the Centennial Peace Plaza area to commemorate the 24 events that are part of the Games. Thank you to Davey Tree for providing the trees, and the city of Cleveland’s Urban Forestry department for helping us determine locations and guiding us through the process.

Gardens: Thanks as well to all of our Cultural Gardens, who once again are keeping their spaces beautiful so that our Greater Cleveland community can enjoy, learn and relax when visiting us.

Looking forward to: One World Day on Aug. 25th. Mark your calendars!
